My father, who turns 96 this year, also experienced the war.
Although he narrowly avoided conscription, he managed to survive by running through Asakusa, which had turned into a sea of flames during the Great Tokyo Air Raid, and by crossing Kototoi Bridge.
My father rose from nothing in the burnt-out ruins and has lived to this day, and he is incredibly strong both physically and with determination.
Now, 80 years after the war, children born may grow up to be very weak.
But if it's peaceful, then maybe that's okay.
I hope that wars all over the world will end as soon as possible and that there will be more days of war ending, and I look forward to seeing you all again tonight 😊
